What is Creed Aventus the original for?

Creed Aventus is one of the best-known men’s fragrances of modern perfumery — a fruity-smoky classic against which numerous affordable alternatives are traded as dupes. It combines five leading accords: fruity, sweet, leather, woody and smoky. The fruity opening of pineapple and apple over a tart black currant is its trademark, counterweighted by the smoky birch and dry oakmoss of the base. Exactly this tension is what the alternatives try to capture — and exactly here lie their differences.

Which notes do Aventus and its dupes share?

All these alternatives aim at the same fruity-smoky impression but differ in how they weight the pineapple, the smokiness of the birch and the sweetness, so the perceived closeness varies by source and wearer. New US direct-to-consumer alternatives (2026)

More recently, the US direct-to-consumer brand Dossier has entered this field: Musky Oakmoss ($49) is positioned by Dossier itself as inspired by Creed’s Aventus. Its published pyramid — apple, pineapple and bergamot over rose, birch leaf and patchouli into musk, oakmoss and amber — shares apple, bergamot, patchouli and musk with the original’s documented notes (editorial 8/10, supported by community discussion). Like every entry on this page, it is an independent fragrance sold direct via the brand’s US site, not a re-creation of the original.
